Chinese New Year: Here’s How To Celebrate The Year Of The Dog In Dublin!
There are LOADS of dog themed events on throughout the city!
We’re sure you all know by now *just* how obsessed Team STELLAR is with dogs – so you can imagine our excitement when we learned it’s about to become The Year Of The Dog!
The Chinese New Year kicks off on Friday 16th of February, and there’ll be a two-week-long festival in Dublin City to celebrate! With delicious food, fairs, and engaging talks on herbal medicine, business, fashion and astrology, you’re guaranteed to find something you love!

Dog Costume Art Workshop
The Tara Building will transform your children into ‘dogs for a day’ at their special Dog Costume Art Workshop on Saturday 17th February. The makeover will begin with children creating their very own felt paws and floppy ears and enjoy a touch of face painting to complete the canine transformation. The event is perfect for 4 – 12 year olds, with tickets priced at €10. The first workshop starts at 10am and the second begins at 1pm.
Dog Life Drawing Class
Interested in a life drawing class with a difference? Perhaps one where the models you sketch are dogs? Same!!! Eimhin McNamara of Paper Panther Productions will show you how to sketch a dog in a unique Dog Life Drawing Class. Artists of all abilities are welcome to participate in the class in A4 Sounds St Joseph’s Parade, Inns Quay on Thursday 22nd February from 7pm. Tickets are priced at €15.
The Curious History of Irish Dogs
Join David Blake Knox, author of The Curious History of Irish Dogs, in Hodges and Figgis on Wednesday 28th February at 6:30pm. Learn all about the nine breeds of dog native to Ireland and the important roles that each has played in Irish history. Angela Wang, a Chinese artist will create live illustrations throughout the evening inspired by the talk. Tickets for this event cost €5.
Year of the Dog Tour
The National Gallery of Ireland will run a Year of the Dog Tour on Sunday 25th of February that will celebrate dogs featured in the Gallery’s collection. Tours start at 11:30am and are free on a first come, first served basis, so be sure to arrive early to secure your spot!
Tall Tail
Pop over to The Smock Alley Theatre on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th February to see Tall Tail, a musical adventure with singing, storytelling and stargazing suitable for dog lovers young and old! Tickets to this screening are €10 for adults and €6 for children.
