Heading Home This Weekend? An All-Out Bus Éireann Strike Has Been Announced
Not ideal, TBH.
If you were planning a trip home for Mother’s Day weekend, you may need to make alternative travel arrangements, as Bus Éireann have announced an all-out strike, which will kick off from midnight tonight.
The company lost over €10 million last year, and its 50 proposed cost-saving measures and work practice changes have not been taken lightly by staff. The state-owned company employs 2,600 people, all of whom are unwilling to accept any reduction in earnings, including overtime earnings.
Talks between the five trade unions lasted more than three hours, and SIPTU’s transport sector organiser, Willie Noone, announced that the “time for talking is over.”
No end date has been announced for the strike action, so if you’ve arranged to visit your mammy this weekend, you may need to look into car-pooling or fork out your dosh for rail tickets just to be on the safe side.
