There’s a magic that flows through Autumn that sparks a feeling of wanting to spend quality time with the one you love. Although the days are shorter and the nights longer, it doesn’t mean that you and your partner are limited to sitting on the sofa and watching scary movies!

Here’s our top five Autumn date ideas.

Drive-In Cinema


If you’re a hopeless romantic and have watched Grease one too many times, then a drive-in movie is the perfect date night idea for you! Movies and Autumn are a match made in heaven. What better way to spend time with your beloved than to snuggle up in the comfort of your car with blankets and treats and watch a film on the big screen?

From the 19th to the 30th of October, Retro Drive-In is back and will be hosting movies every night at the Leopardstown Racecourse. They’ve got all the Halloween classics from Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown to Scream and Beetlejuice…it’s a must if you want to get into the spooky spirit.

Sunset Picnic


‘Tis the season of golden landscapes, fallen leaves and beautiful sunsets. Autumn has to be the most aesthetically pleasing season of them all so let’s not waste it by sitting inside!

The air is crisp and holds just the right amount of warmth that allows us to sit back and appreciate the artistry that Autumn has to offer. Nothing says romance like a bottle of wine, a basket full of food and watching together as the sun goes down.

Late Night Coffee Shop


You’re a night owl, you hate the awkwardness of daytime dating and you want to make “grabbing a coffee” seem romantic. Have you ever been to a late-night coffee shop?

The mellowness that can be found within a cafe on a dark night whilst watching the world go by is an unbeatable dating combo. You can dress all cosy, relax and it can be alcohol-free if that’s the vibe you’re going for.

For anyone who is visiting Galway this Autumn, then you’ve got to make a pit stop at Javas Café Creperie. A quaint little French Café located on Upper Abbeygate Street that’s open until 11 p.m! Its red interiors, romantic décor and warm, dimmed lighting scream all things love!

Ahh, that time of year is upon us at last. Halloween is right around the corner and what better than to spend a wholesome afternoon than at a pumpkin patch?

Pumpkin picking, having a laugh, sipping on a hot chocolate, getting cute pics together…it’s couple goals! We recommend taking a trip to the Galway Pumpkin Patch, Ladyrath Lane in County Meath, Ballycross Apple Farm in Wexford, or the stunning Killarney Pumpkin Farm.

Now you can spend the evening arguing about who has the better pumpkin carving skills, or if you’d like to avoid that controversy and you’ve got a sweet tooth – then bake some pumpkin pie!

An escape from the fast-paced world is dreamy when you’re deep into Autumn. Why not bond over some quiet reading and a cup of coffee in a book shop café? Romance speaks volumes in silence. As Elbert Hubbard once said “He who does not understand your silence will probably not understand your words”…woah!

Books Upstairs in Dublin is one of Ireland’s many hidden gems, and is somewhere you and that special someone will want to spend time together this Autumn. It’s a two-floor bookstore that offers every genre of book you could hope to read, and at the very top is a unique little café with an open fireplace and a large window for people watching. Perfection.
