5 Signs Your Relationship Is Toxic
Feeling like there's something slightly off with your relationship? These signs suggest your partner is far from perfect...
You don’t need us to tell you that relationships are complex. Between cryptic messages, and mind games, it can be hard to suss out what it all means, but what if your relationship is really bad for you? We’re talking pairings that are draining, emotionally fraught and damaging to your self esteem.
If your significant other is guilty of any of the following, it’s a clear sign things just aren’t right.
1. They’re acting jealous
Sure we all get a teensy bit jealous from time to time, but there’s a big difference between a one off situation, and your beau getting a regular case of the green-eyed monster. If he’s overly possessive or flies off the handle when there’s another guy on the scene, there’s likely an underlying trust issue to blame.
2. They manipulate you
Is it always their way or the highway? We’re not talking about how he slyly takes charge of the remote so he can watch the footy, or how, with a little begging he gets to order his choice of takeaway. A manipulative partner will play on your weaknesses to get what they want. If they’re using your emotional soft spots against you, it’s a sure-fire sign you need to step away.
3. You’re not yourself
Can you feel yourself changing to suit your partner’s needs or wants? Maybe you find yourself being shy on your opinions, or not expressing what you want. Broach the subject with your beau and if nothing changes then it’s time to step back from the relationship and get back to being yourself again.
4. You can’t seem to do anything right
Feel like you have to tiptoe around your fella incase you peeve him off? In the long run this kind of behaviour will lower your self-esteem. You have to ask yourself, if this person really loved you would they be making you feel this way? The answer? Probably not. Bring it up with him or break it off.
5. You’re just not happy anymore
This one doesn’t even need to be justified. Your own happiness should be the number one priority in your life. This person should be providing you with stability and support, and most definitely be making you feel more hyped than a kid at Christmas. If they’re constantly making you miserable, then it’s time to go.
