11 Thoughts I Had While Watching Grey’s Anatomy Season 1 For The First Time

Why didn't I start watching this show sooner?

Grey’s Anatomy has officially been renewed for a 21st season.

Yep, 21st. That’s 21 whole seasons of Meredith, Bailey and Richard running around, saving lives, and dealing with extreme and consistent tragedies.

If you’re still watching the series, good for you. You’re dedicated. If you gave up around season 13 you’re probably akin to most Grey’s fans – the ones who started on day 1 and stuck with the series until they simply couldn’t anymore.

I, on the other hand, appear to be the only person in the world who didn’t grow up watching Grey’s. Sure, I knew who McDreamy was. I recognised Ellen Pompeo’s face. I knew that bad things always happened to those poor doctors.

But that was pretty much it. I didn’t dive into the long, long running series for a long time. Until recently, actually.

And unsurprisingly, I adore it. I’m now nine seasons in and I watch around 3 episodes per day. I love these characters and their drama. I’m hooked on this modern day soap opera.

I do, however, have some thoughts about its first season – namely those I experienced having gone into this show with very little context. This is them.

1. The opening credits for this show are… not what I expected

2. I can’t believe Ellen Pompeo is 33 years old

3. I can’t believe Katherine Heigl is in this show!

4. That episode where the woman was sexually assaulted was an interesting choice

5. They’re having a lot of sex

6. All of these people living in that house together is stressing me out

7. I want Sandra Oh to fight me

8. George is adorable and he doesn’t deserve this hate

9. I can’t believe this season is only 9 episodes long! Surely the series will continue in this vein

10. They’re having even more sex

11. Derek is married. I knew it was too good to be true
