This time in the hot seat, it’s Below Deck Captain Sandy Yawn

What’s your favourite place you’ve travelled to during charter season?

I like them all, I think the boat is the destination for me. Anywhere there is good holding, honestly. I’m a captain, so you want the anchor to hold [laughs]. Anywhere we can drop anchor is spectacular. I love the Almalfi Coast, the South of France, the Beleriac Islands are also so beautiful.

Who’s the most famous person you’ve welcomed aboard a boat?

Well that I can’t say, because I’m under contract, but there’s been a lot of famous people!

If you get stranded on a desert island, what are your three must haves?

I would want Leah [crew member]. I would want a house, because I can have anything right? And, I’d probably take a couple of jet skis.

What celebrity would you love to welcome aboard a boat?

I wouldn’t necessarily go with an actor or actress, but more someone like a president. Yeah, I would want a president. I would want to know: why you need all those cars to follow you? Why you stop traffic? Why you have a special airplane? I would want to know everything!

If you weren’t the captain of a boat, what would you love to do?

It would be on a boat, that’s for sure. But, secretly I’ve always wanted to own a hair salon. I don’t want to learn how to do hair, I just like the camaraderie. It’s always a fun vibe when you go get your hair done. My other option would be a daycare for puppies and kids. I love puppies and I love kids – seems like a stellar option to us!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

An owner of a boat once told me: “When it comes to spending my money, you get my permission.” So, I learnt to have respect for money. I had a big ship card bill. He wasn’t happy, I was sure I was going to get fired.

What’s one thing you’re really passionate about right now?

The live show we’re doing in the UK. For me, that’s the passion, to be able to reach the fans on a whole different level. Interacting with them is my passion.

Who are your three dream dinner guests?

It’s all going to be people who have passed [away]. My mom, my dad and my grandmother. I love my family, so because they’ve all passed away, it would have to be them.

What’s your favourite moment from last seasons Below Deck: Mediterranean?

I laughed all the time. Last season was Malta, and Kyle, who I adore, made me laugh all the time. The banter between him and Natalia. Chef Dave was awesome. His food was incredible. It was my best season, just because I laughed the entire time.
