9 STELLAR Questions With Vanderpump Rules’ Katie Maloney

It was the reality show that generated hundreds of headlines in 2023, and now the show that spawned Scandoval is officially back on our screens.

This season of Vanderpump Rules sees two of the show’s leading ladies, Katie Maloney and Ariana Madix, open their own sandwich shop Something About Her. So what better way to open our interview with Katie than to ask her – if this season were a sandwich, what would it be?

“Oh, my gosh,” Katie begins, “I would say it’s definitely some kind of like, club sandwich because there’s layers, it’s cut into pieces, it’s probably easily shared. Like, I don’t know how to how to describe it. It was so different from any other season, as you know, beginning to see even with the first episode.”

Sandwiches aside, Season 11 picks up three months after Scandoval with a fractured group. And as Katie tells us, we can expect some changing dynamics among the friends.

“I was definitely surprised by how some people shifted their opinions. Coming out of the reunion, where everyone had such strong stances, it was confusing to see some changes in perspective, particularly from Scheana and Lala.”

Looking ahead, Katie’s teasing a more carefree version of herself in coming episodes. “I’m excited for people to see me in a different light than you’ve seen me before,” she says. “I’m very single and I have a lot of fun this season. So I’m looking forward to that being showcased a little bit more.”

Also coming up is the first post-Sandoval cast trip, to Lake Tahoe. But when we mention the possibility of an Irish cast trip to sample our bars, pubs and…sandwich shops, Katie is definitely enthusiastic. “My God, I’d love to,” she tells us. “I’ve never visited Ireland, but I would love to. I’m like 50% Irish. I got to.”

Ooh, I would say like a tinted sunscreen.

3. Three dream dinner party guests, dead or alive?

Anthony Bourdain, Rihanna, and then how about, I don’t know… (We suggest inviting her castmate Ariana Madix) Yeah, Ariana!

4. Your go-to song to get you ready for a night out?

One of my favourite songs, it’s like my anthem is T-Pain, Buy U a Drank. I love that song.

5. Ultimate hangover cure?

Oh, I think like a Diet Coke from McDonald’s. And then you need like some kind of fresh juice, a shower, like a walk. Some kind of movement. And then I don’t really like to do something greasy – that tends to make me feel worse.

I always like, maybe do something cold and crunchy, like a Caesar salad with chicken in it and then a side of fries.

6. Your celeb crush?

Do you know, I’ve had a crush on this person for like, a while. Dev Patel. That man, that man!

7. One thing most people wouldn’t know about you?

I don’t think I have like any like hidden talents. A lot of people assume that I’m a really good skier because I’m from Utah. So maybe this is like the reverse. I don’t know how to ski.

8. Best piece of advice you’ve received?

(On breakups) I think to feel everything that you’re feeling, don’t try to avoid any bit of emotion and understand that that’s going to build character. That’s going to make you stronger.

I think that’s something that’s always encouraged me is that, this is going to just make me into a stronger individual.

9. What are you passionate about right now?

Getting a sandwich shop open!
