A Documentary On Penneys Is Coming
Thanks hun, Penneys!
Hold up – we’re getting a Penneys series?!
Yep, you read that right. There’s a documentary show coming about the iconic siopa, called Inside Penneys.
Ahh, stop.
A six part series with RTÉ One will take a look behind the scenes at the massive retailer, which grew from one shop in Dublin’s Mary Street to a major worldwide operation, with 430 locations across 16 countries. Phew!
The documentary aims to interweave stories from the Penneys (and Primark) international head office in Dublin where global decisions are made, all the way through to the shop floor where millions of customers shop each week.

For those of you who didn’t realise Penneys is Irish born and bred (where’ve you been?), you’ll learn about how Penneys first opened it’s doors in 1969, growing rapidly across Europe and the states.
There’s now over 75,000 people working for the business, and what’s great about the upcoming series is we’ll apparently get lots of insight into those people!

It’s described as an “observational character-led series [following] the people who are the driving force behind the global retailer”.
They’ll look at how Penneys plans to expand even further, with preparations for the opening of brand-new stores across the globe, and checking in on how other key stores are performing throughout the world.
We’ll get to see some insights from the designers and buyers too, like how they select the latest trends and where they get their ideas from!
Of course, they’re also going to be taking a closer look at why Penneys is so engrained in Irish pop culture, and how everyone and their mam pops in for a few pairs of socks, and maybe a jumper too, and sure we might as well get a basket while we’re at it…
You can watch Inside Penneys on RTÉ One from Tuesday 9th January at 8.30pm.
Just hold on tight to your purse while you’re watching, or you’ll find yourself nipping down after work and blowing your savings!
