A Shocking Amount Of Irish People Aren’t Using A Condom When Hooking Up
And STIs are also on the rise.
It’s the first and arguably most important piece of advice you’re given during sex ed in school: always use a condom but it seems a shocking amount of us here in Ireland are ignoring that vital piece of guidance, according to a new study.
The survey which was carried out by Healthy Ireland revealed that 17 percent of (or roughly one in five) people aren’t using any protection during casual sex, while only 24 percent of those surveyed said they’d used a condom the last time they hooked up.
Not surprisingly, the rates of sexually transmitted infections have also increased in recent years, particularly among those aged 15-24, with a 2014 report by HPSC revealing a four percent increase on the previous year.
To echo the advice of your old sex ed teacher but in slightly more crude terms: don’t be silly, wrap that willy. Nothing offers better protection against STIs than a condom.
