Aisling Bea Recommends Using CBD Oil For Insomnia – But What Exactly Is It?

The oil has gotten celebrity support.

You might have heard of cannabis derivative CBD oil in passing, but do you really know what it is?

Cannabidoil (CBD) is an oil that is generally used to aid sleep and relieve pain. Even though it is made from weed, it’s important to know that the oil will not get you high.

CBD oil is taking off in the health and wellness world and has been endorsed by celebrities around the world. Most recently, Aisling Bea wrote a post on Instagram sharing her love for the oil in helping her with insomnia:

So what are the benefits of CBD oil?

Pain relief

Studies have shown that CBD oil can be used as an anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant – it’s been used in the treatment of chronic back pain, diabetes, vomiting and nausea.

People who suffer from chronic pain have found that the combinations of CBD and THC (another chemical found in weed) has worked for them, especially in cases of MS, arthritis and cancer.

Anxiety and sleep

CBD oil has shown benefits in combatting anxiety and depression as it interacts with serotonin receptors in the brain. The calming effect of CBD oil means it can relax and ease nerves.

With depression and anxiety, prescription medication such as benzodiazepines can become addictive and lead to lack of sleep. This is where the use of CBD comes in to assist sleep and problems with mental health.

Epilepsy

An extremely promising use for CBD is for the treatment of epilepsy. CBD has reduced the amount and force of epileptic seizures and has worked in place of other epileptic medicine that may not have resisted patients, studies have found.

And is it legal?

CBD oil is legal in Ireland and can be found in some health shops such as Holland & Barrett and online.

Celebrities such as Whoopi Goldberg and Busy Philipps are advocates for cannabis bi-products – Whoopi even has her own range, called Whoopi & Maya:

Whoopi’s products include CDB edibles, ointments, and even a THC-laden bath soak. The actress has said that she uses the oil to help her with stress and pain, and also for relief from glaucoma.

Well. The more you know, eh?
