Amanda Holden Has Spoken Out About Those Phillip Schofield Rumours

"Other people have found the tin opener."

Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has spoken out about her ‘feud’ with Phillip Schofield, days after reports that he isn’t getting on with multiple people at ITV.

While presenting her breakfast show on Heart Radio earlier today, Amanda alluded to ‘issues’ she had with the This Morning host.

“Lots of buzz around Phillip Schofield at the moment. There are reports that things are a little tense between him and Holly Willoughby as well as Ruth Langsford,” read Pussycat Dolls’ Ashley Roberts, who hosts the show’s entertainment news segment.

“If only there was someone here who might be able to help us with that story,” chimed in Amanda’s co-presenter Jamie Theakston.

Taking the bait, Amanda said:

Listen, I’ve drawn a line under all those issues with Phillip… I’m just gonna say that I really admire anyone that sticks up for themselves because it is not an easy thing to do. There is a tin opener and there’s a can somewhere and other people have found the tin opener. That’s all I’m saying.

That’s quite a roundabout way of saying that a can of worms has been opened. But what are the worms?

UK tabloids reported last week that Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford had filed an official complaint with ITV against Phillip – and that his relationship with Holly Willoughby had become “strained” as a result.

ITV released a statement decrying the rumours as “malicious gossip”, insisting that Phillip was well-regarded by Holly and all at the station.

It’s deeply disappointing and unfair for Phillip to be the target of this sort of malicious gossip. Phillip is a much-respected broadcaster and colleague and this is absolutely not a description of This Morning that we recognise.

“Holly and Phil are great friends both on and off screen and are popular among viewers and colleagues alike.”

What’s that got to do with Amanda? Well, according to The Sun, she believes that Phil didn’t want her filling in for Holly while she was away for I’m A Celebrity, and pushed instead for Rochelle Humes.

Amanda confirmed their falling out on her radio show back in June, saying she’d tried to make up with Phillip only for him to ignore her text.

For his part, Phil tweeted that he tries to be the “easiest, most fun person to work with”, and asked viewers to ignore “hurtful and wildly untrue stories”.

She previously told listeners that the three things she wouldn’t want to find in her home were “Spiders, flies and Phillip Schofield”. Ouch.

We’ll have to wait and see how this turns out…
