After weeks of speculation over the status of their relationship, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez announced last week that they’re parting ways, ending their four-year relationship and two-year engagement.

The pair released a statement that stated they are “better as friends”, but it hasn’t a source has more recently revealed to People that J Lo apparently didn’t feel it was “in her best interests” to stay with him.

“She insisted on it,” the source revealed. “There are too many issues that are unresolved.”

The source continued to explain that J Lo felt she could no longer trust Alex: “She has been pretty miserable, and didn’t think it was in her best interests to stay with Alex.”

People further reported that another source clarified that their breakup wasn’t caused by cheating, but added, “whether or not he has cheated doesn’t matter, she won’t tolerate the fear of it in the air between them.”

Only last month the pair admitted that they were ‘working through some things’ when asked about their relationship, but appeared in good spirits on a family trip to the Dominican Republic.

At the time, the pair also denied “inaccurate” rumours about A-Rod growing close to reality star Madison LeCroy.

Those who know J-Lo and A-Rod as a couple are rumoured to note that this split was a “long time coming” according to Page Six, with the pair first getting together in 2017, later announcing their engagement in March 2019.
