Barack Obama’s Tweet Following The Charlottesville Riot Is Now The Most Liked In History
He had quoted Nelson Mandela.
Barack Obama broke the record for most liked tweet following the violent rally in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday afternoon.
The former US president tweeted a Nelson Mandela quote, “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion…” alongside a photo of him talking to children of different races.
To date, the tweet has over three million likes and almost 1.5 million retweets.

In subsequent tweets, he finished the quote saying, “People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love… For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite – Nelson Mandela”.
This knocks Ariana Grande’s tweet following the Manchester Arena attack into second place, and Ellen DeGeneres’ 2014 Oscar-selfie into third.
