Another documentary is set to explore Britney Spears’ life and struggles in a conservatorship for the past 13 years. But this time it will be from the streaming giant Netflix.

Britney vs Spears will be released on September 28, the day before the latest court hearing for the controversial conservatorship. The trailer also seems to hint at having access to a confidential report that has been leaked.

It will be directed by US documentary filmmaker Erin Lee Carr, known for her work on I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth vs Michelle Carter and How to Fix a Drug Scandal.

Britney vs Spears will focus mainly on Britney’s father, James Parnell Spears’ and her former business manager Lou M. Taylor’s control of her finances, career, and personal life under a conservatorship the star has been fighting to get out of.

This documentary comes after a surge in interest for the #FreeBritney movement, a movement of activists campaigning to end Britney’s conservatorship. The surge follows the release of Framing Britney, a documentary about the conservatorship created and released by The New York Times back in March.

Britney has been under the conservatorship, a controversial legal mechanism that strips adults who are typically disabled of their legal capacity or right to make decisions with legal consequences, since 2008.

Her father, Jamie, has been in charge of the conservatorship since its foundation, despite Britney’s protests.

Set your reminder for Tuesday, September 28, Netflix.
