The Playlist: English Pop Star Caity Baser Is Still Learning
We caught up with the star...
Caity Baser smashed onto the scene in 2023. Her cheeky songs have taken social media by storm. She was nominated for her first BRIT Award this year in the Rising Star category.
She started releasing music on TikTok, so we’re sure you’ve heard some of her singles on her FYP. And if you haven’t well you’ll have to listen to her mixtape which is out now.
We caught up with the bubbly British pop princess to find out about the music that made her and why just like the title of her mixtape she’s still learning.

Hey Caity! Tell us about your new mixtape!
It is all about the mistakes, the good, the bad and the ugly things that go on, and putting a label on them. You know how people say all press is good press. Well that’s how I feel about situations, because you can take something away from every situation. It’s okay to go through bad things, it’s okay not to know what you’re doing. I have no idea what I’m doing! Why would I want to know what I’m doing? Because then I’d have a plan and I wouldn’t grow. Nobody knows what they’re doing and there is so much pressure to have it together. The older I get, I realise there are even more things to worry about.
Where do you get the inspiration for your songs from?
Life! And my friends. I always write songs for my best friends. One of the songs is called Show Girls and it’s for my best friend, Georgia. She is just like me! She’s an idiot! [Laughs] She will always call me out. The song is about when she broke up with her boyfriend who was an idiot! And she told me she wanted to go be with him and I told her no, come over to mine and we’ll go out! Don’t be ridiculous. All of my songs are about me or my friends or my family. I want to tell a story and it’s easy to do it that way because you already have the story, you just need to find it that way.
Did you always know you wanted to become a musician?
Yes! It was either this or nothing. I would have been sat at home depressed!
Growing up, who were the musicians you listened to?
Everyone! But the stand out ones were Freddie Mercury, wow. He’s my idol. And Elton John! I also love old Motown songs, one of my favourite songs is At Last by Eartha Kitt. Lily Allen, I loved Katy Perry and, of course, Dolly Parton. Anyone with a bit of sass!
Who is your biggest inspiration?
Freddie Mercury! He’s an absolute legend. Bohemian Rhapsody? I’ve watched that film a million, billion times! When I was younger I would sit on Youtube and just watch his performances. The same with Whitney [Houston] and Britney [Spears]. I love him, I love how he carried himself. I love how he was like, ‘F**k you, I’m going to be the biggest star in the world.
What was your first gig?
Katy Perry at the O2. That was the day I realised I wanted to be an artist at like seven years old. It was amazing. She was insane. I was in the s**t seats right in the back. I couldn’t see her. But I didn’t care. I wanted to be her.
What is the album you constantly go back to?
SZA’s album SOS. She has been my number one artist on Spotify for the last few years. She is one of my favourite artists ever.
What is the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Glastonbury! Honestly, it was the best weekend of my life. It was just chaos and lights and colours and action. It’s everything I love! I had the best time at Glastonbury.
Dead or alive, who are your three ideal dinner guests?
Freddie Mercury! Doja Cat! And Micky Flanagan!

Is there one song you would never get sick of?
Forever by The Little Dippers.
What is your biggest achievement so far?
Being nominated for a BRIT Award. That was pretty sick! I was like, ‘What? What do you mean?!’ Just being acknowledged by such a big award ceremony. I always dreamed about going to the BRITs and I went last year. Then I went last year and then I dreamed about being nominated. And when I was. Now I want to win a BRIT!
What’s on your bucket list?
Win a BRIT. Win a Grammy. Do my first tour in America. Be top 10 in the album releases. Get a number one. Play Glastonbury. Keep going, keep slaying.
You’re coming to Ireland in April, what are your plans when you’re over here?
Last time when I was over here I didn’t get the chance to explore. I only had a few hours before the show. And Ireland is gorgeous and I had a really nice time. But I want to go on a night out.
Caity’s mixtape, Still Learning is out now. She is set to take to the stage at The Academy venue Dublin on Monday April 1, with tickets available here.
