Hat tip to you, Paul Mescal.

Easily one of the biggest stars to rise to fame in 2020, Paul Mescal has had a year like no other. In a short couple of months, the Kildare native basically went from being the lad off the Denny’s ad to an Emmy nominee.

Winning over our hearts as Connell Waldron in the BBC/Hulu adaption of Sally Rooney’s Normal People, Connell’s few words and endearing personality won over audiences far and wide. I mean, even the Kardashians were harping on about the show!

Then, winning GQ’s Breakthrough Actor Award, as well as donning some slick suits at some very glamorous awards shows, we’ve got to hand it to Paul Mescal, he’s killed it this year and it has been pretty epic to watch his rocket rise to fame.

And now, as we reflect back on our year, Twitter is counting the stats, and has noted one tweet in particular that resonated with Irish users the most this year. As you already know, it was a tweet from Mr Paul Mescal – two simple and effective words that even Connell could string together, the tweet simply said “I’m Irish”.

The tweet which was in response to Paul’s Emmy nominee, was hitting back at those who reported the star was from the UK. Quickly putting them in their place, Paul set the record straight by tweeting some straight facts.

With over 131k likes (and still counting), Paul’s tweet was nearly as legendary as when he made O’Neills chic.

Another accolade to top off the year for you, Paul, fair play!
