Cara Delevingne Says Harvey Weinstein Told Her To ‘Get A Beard’ To Hide Her Sexuality

Cara Delevingne has revealed that Harvey Weinstein once told her to ‘get a beard’ to hide her sexuality.

The former movie producer told her she wouldn’t get work if she was openly in a relationship with a woman.

The actress and model revealed this in an interview with Net A Porter when she was asked if her sexuality impacted her career.

“In the beginning, I don’t think it helped,” she revealed.

“One of the first things Harvey Weinstein ever said to me was, ‘You will never make it in this industry as a gay woman – get a beard.’”

“When I’d just started to audition for films, he was naming people [women] I’m friends with – famous people – and asking, ‘Have you slept with this person?’ I just thought: this is insane.”

Cara also added that this was “a long time before he tried to touch me”. The actress previously alleged that Weinstein made sexual advances towards her.

She also revealed that he would ask her about female friends and if she was romantically involved with them.

“When I’d just started to audition for films, he was naming people [women] I’m friends with – famous people – and asking, ‘Have you slept with this person?’ I just thought: this is insane.”

Thankfully the actress didn’t take on Weinstein’s advice and has been in a relationship with fellow actress Ashley Benson for over a year.

Speaking about the relationship, Cara said: “I never really trusted people, or felt worthy of it, and I always pushed them away. She’s the first person that has said: ‘You can’t push me away. I’m going to be nice to you, I love you.’” Delevingne pulls a face of faux bewilderment. “I’m just like, wait, so all I have to do is just let you be nice to me? Why have I never done that before? OK.”

Unfortunately, Cara is not the only young woman in Hollywood who has been told to hide her sexuality.

Earlier this month, Kristen Stewart revealed a similar experience.

“I have fully been told, ‘If you just like do yourself a favour, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie.’” she revealed.

Thankfully, Kristen dismissed this ‘advice’ because: “I don’t want to work with people like that.”

She is currently in a relationship with Dylan Meyer.
