As once the most followed star on Instagram, Selena Gomez made the decision to step back from the app and the amount she was using it in 2018, following an ongoing battle with her health and her wish to be more “present” in real life.

But now, in a recent candid post, Selena has revealed that in recent months, after years of battling with her confidence and how she looked following a kidney transplant in 2017, she’s feeling more “proud” than ever before.

“When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar. I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up,” the 28-year-old opened by saying.

“Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through…and I’m proud of that. T – Congratulations on what you’re doing for women, launching @lamariette whose message is just that…all bodies are beautiful.”

Sharing a photo of herself in a beautiful blue swimsuit, with her arms about her head and her scar facing outwards, the Ice Cream star looks confident and happy.

Selena needed a kidney transplant following complications from the autoimmune disease lupus. Receiving the kidney from her best friend, Francia Raisa, Francia later revealed Gomez nearly died due to complications from the surgery.

In April of this year, Selena also candidly opened up about her mental health struggles. Appearing on Miley Cyrus’ Bright Minded Instagram series, Selena noted that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
