Demi Lovato took to the stage for E!’s People’s Choice Awards last night, Sunday November 15.

Hosting the show and kicking it off with a witty monologue, similar to those who have gone before her, Demi cracked a couple jokes, even poking fun at her own engagement which ended at the end of September.

A total lockdown romance, Demi Lovato and Max Enrich has a whirlwind relationship this year. Getting together in March 2020, announcing their engagement in July 2020 and their split in September 2020 via a rep, Demi is now looking back and laughing on what was a pretty quick 360 turnaround.

Explaining that this year has felt like three, Demi noted that she was thrilled to host the show, and gave a run-through on the year she has had, adding that it started out “great”.

“I performed at the Grammys and sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl. But then, COVID hit, and everything shut down.

“So I did what everyone else did, I went into lockdown mode, and got engaged,” joked Demi.

As the months rolled on, Demi explained that what she did to fill that time, with everything from painting to getting “unengaged”, again, joking that it was like “everyone else”.

“I got into painting, photography, meditation, tested the limits of post mates unlimited. Also, I didn’t know this could happen, but reached the end of Instagram four times. I binged seven seasons of Pretty Little Liars, got unengaged, then went looking for aliens in the desert.

“So basically the same as everyone else.”

Other highlights from last night’s People’s Choice Awards included Jennifer Lopez giving an incredibly inspiring speech to girls of “all ages and all colours” during the show, Justin Bieber’s performance of Lonely and Holy, and Tyler Perry speaking on why you’re worthy of achieving your goals.

All round, a great awards show, and one we’re thankful to see back in some capacity.
