Do You Have An Idea For The New Irish Passport Design?

We wonder can they make it pink...

The Irish Passport is getting a makeover and the government wants your help.

The current design has been around for a decade and the Irish Government has decided that it’s time for a change.

Passports are revamped every few years to make sure they include the latest security features and “communicate Irish culture and values”, explained Tánaiste Micheál Martin. Let’s face it – the design is fine, but a gold harp on a wine background doesn’t exactly scream “Ireland.”

A design team in the Department of Foreign Affairs is currently considering themes which are understood to be “anchored in Ireland’s natural environment”.  There is currently a short survey available to all Irish citizens so that they can share their opinions on what the new passport design should look like. The survey asks citizens to consider which Irish flora and fauna they think should be included in the design.

So it looks like there’s going to be a shamrock in there somewhere.

The redesign process is expected to begin later this year with the new passport books becoming available before the end of 2025.

So break out your coloured pencils and get drawing girls. We have a passport to create!
