Ellie Goulding Says Ed Sheeran/Niall Horan Cheating Rumours Caused Her ‘A Lot Of Truama’

Ellie Goulding is opening about the massive toll allegations of cheating took on her.

Back in 2014, Ed released his song Don’t, which called out his former girlfriend for cheating. The song was a smash hit, leading to a lot of speculation amongst his fans about the partner in question. With people believing the song was about Ellie and fellow singer Niall Horan hooking up behind Ed’s back.

Earlier this year, Ellie addressed the rumours, shutting down any speculation she was unfaithful. When someone commented: “Can’t believe u cheated on ed with niall but slay fr,” Ellie responded, “False!!!! But also slay.”

But now the songstress has revealed that despite the rumours being untrue, they still had a massive impact on her life.

Speaking to You magazine for the Mail on Sunday, Ellie shared: “It’s fascinating how many people are interested in that. It happened nine years ago, you know, completely honestly, it caused me a lot of trauma, actually.”

“I envy the fact that my friends just spent their twenties having flings and one-night stands and what every 20-something goes through in private. But every single thing I did was written about,” the  said.

“I was made to feel like a terrible person and I really struggled with that because I know I’m not.”

According to an interview with Elle UK in 2015 Ellie shared, “I did go on a few dates with Niall but I was never in a relationship with Ed…I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing.”

In 2013 The Mirror reported that Ellie and Niall were showing PDA at V Festival and a week later she was seen holding hands with Ed Sheeran at the VMAs.

As for why Ellie re-addressed the rumours at the beginning of this year…she had a pretty hilarious reason, admitting she was “really drunk.” But it was also important for her to set the record straight as fans still bring up the rumours till this day.

At the time of the allegations, Ellie stayed relatively quiet, which as it turns wasn’t a coincidence.

“I can laugh about it now but it changed things for me, I became kind of reclusive,” she confessed.

“I didn’t want to perform. That’s why I wrote that comment because every day I get comments about this stupid teenage situation. It was nothing and it was private – and it caused me such a huge amount of grief and I resent it.”

As for where she stands with Ed now, The pair are pals, setting the drama aside.

“It is in the past and we’re friends. We’re adults,” the 36-year-old said.

Her and Niall are also on good terms, as she described him as a “lovely guy” with a “brilliant sense of humour”.
