Emily Ratajkowski Says She Wanted To End Her Marriage For A Long Time

"I didn't have the courage to leave for a long time. I was really, really unhappy."

Emily Ratajkowski is opening up about her divorce from director Sebastian Bear-McClard.

Last year, it was announced that the pair were separating following allegations of infidelity. However, both have stayed very quiet on their split, with Emrata referencing a breakup occasionally but never openly discussing it. Until now that is, as the model is getting candid about ending their marriage, confessing she was unhappy for a long time before their official separation.

“I didn’t have the courage to leave for a long time. I was really, really unhappy,” Emily shared during an interview on the Going Mental podcast.

“I was, like, 100 pounds and I had just had a baby. I got really skinny ’cause I was not OK.”

The actress admitted she “tried everything” to be happy, but knew their relationship wasn’t working.

“So much of what I learned of coming out of that relationship is, like, to trust your instincts and gaslighting is a real thing. I didn’t understand that it was actually gonna be so nice to come back to myself and, like, return back to how I see the world, how I understand things, my instincts,” she explained.

Sharing how she struggled to find the “courage” to leave, Emily confessed how ideas of the perfect family kept pulling her back in.

Explaining: “Every piece of media we consume from the second we are born is basically this idea of finding a partner that completes and validates you.”

“Plus, I had just had a child, so I really wanted to have that family, so it was especially hard for me to totally walk away,” she added.

The model referenced an incident which finally encouraged her to split from Sebastian, but refused to speak directly about it as her divorce is not finalised and also to protect her son’s privacy.

Saying: “I’m a very, like, on-and-off person. I will literally, like, sit with people that I love—friends, family, whatever—for so long, and then if there’s a line that’s crossed, I’m like, ‘Okay. That was it.'”

“For me, it was so clear, and then it just became clearer and clearer and clearer.”

Emily and Sebastian tied the knot in a spontaneous court house wedding back in 2018, after announcing their relationship two weeks before hand.

The pair welcomed their first child, a son named Sylvester, in March 2021, after Emily announced her pregnancy in a Vogue video.
