Eric Roberts: ‘Fatherhood Is A Learning Curve, It Hasn’t Been Easy’

Eric Roberts has been flying high after getting his start on social media.

He walked the Platinum VIP Style Awards red carpet in pure Donegal style.

He chats to us about married life, fatherhood and the next stage for his career…

Eric! You’re all go! Married, baby and a house. Are you like tick, tick, tick?

Baby is born. A house on the way. It feels like that, but you still feel so far behind in life when everything’s going on. Last year was amazing and it’s a great start to the year now as well. Work’s going very well and yeah just very very happy.

You’re building your house in Donegal…

We’re building in Donegal, and we’re actually starting to rent down in Dublin while it’s going on. I’m up here for work all the time, so it would just make sense to come up for a few months anyway.

At least you have that base in Dublin for the time being, you must be up and down the road like a yo-yo!

Yeah, I’m racking up the miles definitely in the car. [Laughs] Rían’s five months now so him and Niamh can travel up and down with me so. Life on the road is not easy, but we said we’re better to get a place in Dublin for a while now.

What is it like being a dad?

It’s amazing, Niamh and I had been trying for months so it’s something that we planned and we were really looking forward to and it’s been an experience. It’s been a learning curve, it hasn’t been easy, lots of sleepless nights. Very very tired. Niamh’s been incredible, she was born to be a mother, and it’s amazing watching her take to it so easily, whereas I’m learning as I go.

And you’re joining Ireland AM as well. Talk to us about that.

I’m kind of juggling between midweek and weekends. I love both, it’s such a fun place to work, it’s a fun family to be a part of and they’ve been so welcoming. I have a few things coming up over the summer that I haven’t been able to commit to totally, but I’m enjoying the slots, and I’ll see where it leads.

What’s next for you?

There’s a lot coming up, I’ve a podcast coming out, I’ve a children’s book coming out. I have a new business coming out all in the next few months.

Wow! You truly are all go. Is it because you’ve so many sleepless nights with baby Rían? 

[Laughs] Yeah, basically I’ve so much time on my hands, so I’m going to rattle as much as I can this year.
