Everybody Calm Down! Has #ChipGate Finally Gone Too Far?
It's a mug, people.
Samsung has released a new phone and Rihanna has her own range of runners with Puma, but all anyone wants right now is this €6 mug from Penneys.
Adorable isn’t he? But is he worth the hype?
Since Penneys announced that this little guy would be landing in-store, people have been collectively losing their shit, both online and in real life, it seems. He instantly sold out in the UK and eBay listings promptly appeared, with the mug selling for up to five times its original price.
Currently you’ll find him listed for €36.95, plus postage and packaging, FYI.
Disney fans on home soil eagerly awaited his release date here in Ireland and finally 200 of them dropped into stores yesterday.
Droves of people queued outside Penneys stores across the city in the early morning and many successful shoppers nabbed a mug before staff had a chance to pack the delivery out on to shelves.
Meanwhile, as the #ChipGate hashtag trends on Twitter, Penneys has had their own gas reaction to the whole hilarious situ, releasing a specially made pair of socks that reads “I wanted a chip mug but all I got were these socks.”
