Everything We Know About The New Season Of Great British Bake Off
We're in for a real treat
While most of us didn’t bat an eyelid at the news of Love Island being canceled this Summer due to the Coronavirus pandemic, for many of us our concerns turned straight towards the Great British Bake Off instead.
Few shows went unscathed this year, but much to our delight our favourite reality contest, the Great British Bake Off managed to slip through the net, and finally, we have a start date, Tuesday the 22nd of September.
Putting in a lot of dedication, the team went into isolation for six weeks in order to film for the new series. Kieran Smith, the creative director at Love Productions explained to Broadcast Now that they rented out a location in the UK which housed all cast, crew and more for the duration, with everyone isolating for 9 days before taking three COVID tests to begin filming.
With the series set to air this week, here’s everything we know about it so far.

Speaking about the military-style production, Kieran also went on to say that this year’s contestants were just as hardworking, if not more, than any other year. Setting up 12 practice kitchens for the bakers to use on their days off to nail baking those sweet sweet treats. Kieran also explained that filming over the six weeks was extremely intense, with them working two days on and two days off – leaving little time for the bakers to perfect their recipes.
The identity of the 12 baking hopefuls has finally been revealed, and it’s a colourful line up indeed. From a student to a radiographer, all of whom you can check out in the trailer that has just recently been released.
We’re also well aware by now that Matt Lucas will be joining Noel Fielding as he replaces previous host Sandi Toksvig, who we can also get a glimpse of in action in the above trailer. Speaking about Matt joining the team, Chief executive of Love Productions Richard McKerrow has said that we’re in for a real treat.
“It’s extremely exciting to have Matt joining the Bake Off family, he’s a phenomenal talent with a huge heart and we can’t wait to enjoy the mischief and mayhem he and Noel will inevitably create in the tent.”

While a lot has changed this year in terms of cast and production, one thing that thankfully remains the same is Prue and Paul, who will be back overseeing all of the culinary antics. What’s even better, is that as the contestants don’t need to social distance due to them being isolated, we can still expect some of those legendary Hollywood handshakes, which is about one of the only things 2020 hasn’t robbed from us.
You can tune in to the new series tomorrow night, the 22nd of September at 8pm on Channel 4.
