Euphoria is coming back!

Fans of the HBO hit show have been eagerly anticipating it’s return, after the first two seasons were such a massive success.

Season two came to a close in February 2022, so it’s been a seriously long time since we last caught up with the troubled teen characters.

Now, we finally have some information on what we can expect from the third season.

Here’s EYNTK about Euphoria season three!

The Cast

We know that star of the show Zendaya will be back to continue filming, of course. But who else can we hope to see on our screens?

According to POPSUGAR, Sydney Sweeney (Cassie), Dominic Fike (Elliot) and Eric Dane (Cal) are the only cast members to explicitly confirm that they’ll be coming back for the next series; though we imagine most of the cast will also return.

As for who won’t be returning, Barbie Ferreira, who plays Kat, has unfortunately revealed that she won’t be rejoining the cast. On Dax Shepard’s podcast Armchair expert, Barbie shared that her and Euphoria director Sam Levinson’s visions for Kat didn’t align.

“I think there were places she could have gone…I just don’t think it would have fit into the show. I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that.

“I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either. I would’ve played her for as long as I was asked to depending on what the material was.”

Another character who won’t be returning is Angus Cloud’s Fez, as Angus sadly passed away this Summer. In a tribute to Angus posted by the Euphoria Instagram page, show runners wrote “We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Angus Cloud. He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family.”

The Plot

Though no official plot summary has been released to the public yet, we have had some hints from the actors about where they see (or would like to see) their characters going.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last year, Zendaya shared that she’s looking forward to seeing other characters developed more thoroughly.

“What was special about this season was that we got to dive into [the other characters] in a much deeper sense,” she said. “I think we can do that again with the third season. There’s so much talent, you want to make sure everybody has the chance to have that.”

Zendaya is also curious to see how Rue’s sobriety journey may continue, and how the Euphoria gang will prepare for life after high school.

“They’re trying to figure out what to do with their lives when high school is over and what kind of people they want to be…

“I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look.”

Chloe Cherry, who plays Faye, has her own hopes for her character’s development too. She told Variety, “I think Faye has a story of addiction to tell as Rue does; even though it’s different…I think that they could learn something from each other.”

She also shared her desire for Rue and Faye to bond more in the next season. “I also think Rue is a non-judgmental character, and I think that is all Faye needs.

“I think if they got closer, they would get along because they have these shared experiences, and they are both chill girls in spite of it.”

Interesting! We can’t wait to see whether Chloe and Zendaya will get the outcomes they desire, or whether the show might go in surprising directions.

The Release Date

Here’s where things get complicated.

Because of the SAG AFTRA strikes, production has been put on hold, meaning we don’t have an exact release date for season three of Euphoria. However, according to Variety, HBO have Euphoria season three as one of their priorities for filming in 2024. So fingers crossed we’ll have the show by 2025 at the latest.
