What’s it about?

For those of you who haven’t read the books or watched the movies, The Chronicles of Narnia follow the lives of the Pevensie children; Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy.

The four kids are packed off to the English countryside when the second world war hits London, and it’s there that Lucy discovers a secret world behind a wardrobe – Narnia.

Over seven books the children’s lives outside and inside Narnia develop and change, and there’s everything from gruelling wars with evil villains to romantic encounters with exotic princes. It’s a wild ride!

Greta’s take on it is yet to be uncovered, so we can only imagine what angles she might use.

However, it might not be as alternative as we think, as it turns out Greta has a similar Christian background to Narnia author C.S. Lewis – which is why she was chosen for the project.

Chairman of Netflix films Scott Stuber told Variety that “[Greta] grew up in a Christian background. The C.S. Lewis books are very much based in Christianity. And so we just started talking about it.”

Scott continued to share that Greta and the team are interested in the entire story of Narnia, not just the first novel and movie which are the most popular.

“Obviously, ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ is kind of the preeminent one, but there’s such an interesting narrative form [to the Narnia series] if you read all of them,” he told the publication.

“And so that’s what she’s working on now with [producer] Amy Pascal and Mark Gordon and they’re trying to figure out how they can break the whole arc of all of it.”

Who’s acting in it?

While there have been no cast announcements just yet, there was a rumour by DisbussingFilm on Twitter that suggested Jacob Elordi would be taking on the role of Peter Pevensie.

Alas, it was just a joke – though we would lose it if we got our Saltburn fave in a fantasy film!

Other fan casts (dream casting from fans) include Game Of Throne’s Gwendolyn Christie as the White Witch, Sophie Turner as Susan, and Millie Bobby Brown as Lucy.

Of course, there’s always the chance some of the original cast could return, as there are plenty of big names from the films still on the Hollywood scene.

Will Poulter, Liam Neeson, Tilda Swinton, Peter Dinklage and Warwick Davis all featured in the first films.

We’d also be delighted to see the four Pevensie kids back on our screens, as it seems most of them are still acting here and there!

When will we get it?

So, there’s no official release yet – but we do have a vague idea!

According to ScreenRant, Scott Stuber confirmed that filming was starting in 2024 for the first film; The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

We can safely assume then that pre-production is mostly done and the script is ready to go.

Exciting – watch this space!
