FKA Twigs Is Suing Ex Shia LaBeouf For Abusive Behaviour
“What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life.”
The New York Times has published a report that singer, FKA Twigs is suing her ex-boyfriend, Shia LaBeouf for sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress.
Tahliah Debrett Barnett, otherwise known as FKA Twigs, dated the actor for slightly less than a year from 2018-2019. She has decided to take action against her former boyfriend because; “I’d like to be able to raise awareness on the tactics that abusers use to control you and take away your agency.”
The report details a number of different incidents that took place throughout their relationship. The 32 year old claims that she woke up to find the actor was choking her.
Later she shared that the abuse was “relentless” and at times he would bruise her by grabbing or squeezing her but she didn’t tell the police as she was concerned about harming his career.
She also spoke about an incident involving a car which she claims he was driving recklessly and threatening to crash it unless she said she loved him. This was allegedly followed up by him threatening and assaulting her at a petrol station.

The singer also spoke about how she was in a privileged position where she could get out of the relationship, unlike many other women in the same situation which is partly why she wants to speak out about it.
“The whole time I was with him, I could have bought myself a business-flight plane ticket back to my four-story townhouse in Hackney.”
“He brought me so low, below myself, that the idea of leaving him and having to work myself back up just seemed impossible.”
“What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life.”
“I don’t think people would ever think that it would happen to me. But I think that’s the thing. It can happen to anybody.”

Shia LaBeouf responded to these claims on Thursday in an email to the New York Times. He said; “I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel.”
“I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.”
In another email he revealed that many of the claims women had made about his behaviour are not true but he shared that; “I am not cured of my PTSD and alcoholism, but I am committed to doing what I need to do to recover, and I will forever be sorry to the people that I may have harmed along the way.”
The lawsuit has been filed in Los Angeles.
