“Forgive Me”: Lucy Hale Has Apologised For ‘Fat-Shaming’ Herself On Instagram

Fans felt she was sending an unhealthy message.

Lucy Hale has been gracing our screens as Aria Montgomery in Pretty Little Liars for seven years, and the last word anyone would use to describe her is ‘fat’.

Yet, that’s exactly how the 28-year-old actress described herself when posting a throwback photo to Instagram on Sunday.

In the picture, which she shared for Father’s Day, Lucy can be seen smiling next to her dad at what appears to be a wedding. The star captioned the photo, “You taught me to have soul. I love you daddy.”

However, it’s not the caption that raised a few eyebrows but a comment Lucy wrote underneath. Replying to a comment from her stylist, Scotty Cunha, she said, “Ugh I was so fat.”

Fans were disappointed that the star was so-called ‘fat-shaming’ herself, not only because they want her to feel confident about herself but also because it sends out an unhealthy message to other women.

One person wrote to her saying, “Fat? That’s what you take away from this beautiful photo of you and your dad? You weren’t, and even if you were, who cares? How many young girls follow you, and have now seen this? Sigh.”

Another added, “I know you’ve got the right to say that, but just imagine what it’s like for your fans who are a little bit bigger or struggling with their body to hear that from their idol who’s obviously never been fat.”

Lucy has since responded to the backlash on Twitter, saying, “Sometimes I forget that people are watching everything I do, and I say things I don’t mean. I’m extremely sorry if my comment about my weight offended anyone.

“Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy”, she continued, “I know people look up to me and I should be way more aware of what I say sometimes. Thanks for all the love and support. Hope y’all can forgive me!”
