It has been literally years since the rumours Legally Blonde 3 began, and last year it was finally confirmed. Let’s be fair, we’ve waited long enough.
Back in 2018, Reese Witherspoon made the first sign that a third film was in the works, recreating an iconic pool float moment from the first movie, when she was trying to get accepted into law school, Reese wrote:
“It’s true….. #LegallyBlonde3”
Then, the news came that Mindy Kaling is writing the script, along with Brooklyn Nine-Nine creator Dan Goor. So yeah, you can be sure that the third instalment is going to be absolutely gas.

Deadline also reported that this time Elle will have an “entirely fresh spin”, with Reese confirming in 2019 that we’ll see her go on a new “hero’s journey” because that’s all we really want from Elle – to see her succeeding and kicking ass.
And as Mindy is writing the script, OG producers Marc Platt and Adam Siegel are back again to produce the third film alongside Reese herself.
Back in 2018, there were hopes for a release date on Valentine’s Day 2020. Of course, that came and went with no Elle Woods thanks to the pandemic. So now, the plan is for Legally Blonde 3 to be released on 20th May 2022 – already less than a year away!

According to Reese Witherspoon herself, it’s most likely that the whole cast and crew that we know and love will be back too. “I love Jennifer Coolidge and Luke Wilson and Selma Blair and so there’s so many great characters that people love,” she told Entertainment Tonight just before the film was confirmed.
“If we end up doing it, hopefully, they end up all being there,” she continued before breaking our hearts a little bit when adding, “It’s just a development project right now, so we’ll see.”
We’ve so many questions already. Are Elle and Emmett still together? Did Elle boss all the way to the top in tow with fluffy, pink accessories? Is Bruiser still as much of a diva as ever?
