Get Ready True Crime Fans: Dirty John Season 2 Is On The Way

It sounds just as grim but also, just as addictive...

If you’re a true-crime addict, you’ll be very excited to hear that a second season of Dirty John is on the way.

The first explosive series of the show followed the story of John Michael Meehan (followed by Eric Bana) and his tumultuous relationship with Debra Newell (Connie Britton).

The hugely popular first season was compulsive viewing because it was like a storyline in the most dramatic episodes of Desperate Housewives, but crazier, and you know, real!

The story was based on the 2017 podcast of the same name, inspired by Los Angeles Times story.

If you’ve seen season 1 you’ll know that there’s not more to be told about John and Debra (If you haven’t seen it, get on that, it’s on Netflix!). And so the new season will be focused on a different story altogether in an anthology format similar to American Crime Story.

Officially named Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, season 2 will follow the story of Betty and Dan Broderick, in one of ‘America’s messiest divorces’ even before it ended in double-homicide. Grim.

According to NBC: “This second instalment will be based on another epic true tale of love gone wrong – a story that spans the 1960s to the ’80s.”

The story goes: “Betty charms everyone she meets. After years of sacrifice and suffering while supporting Dan through both medical and law school until he exploded into the San Diego legal community as a superstar, Betty is finally enjoying the fruits of their labors. That is, until Dan hires Linda, a bright, beautiful young woman without baggage with whom he can happily forget the struggles of his past.

“Betty’s attempts to fight back and enraged refusals to accept reality only serve to isolate and destabilize her until she loses her very identity. And Dan’s cold confidence blinds him to the bear he has created, and won’t stop poking … until it’s too late.” Wow okay.

The couple will be played by Amanda Peet and Christian Slater, and although we don’t have a release date just yet, we can’t help but feel we’ll be hooked to season 2.
