It’s official, after months of the rumour mill swirling, Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady confirmed their split.

Sharing separate statements on social media, iconic supermodel Gisele said: “With much gratitude for our time together, Tom and I have amicably finalised our divorce. My priority has always been and will continue to be our children whom I love with all my heart. We will continue co-parenting to give them the love, care and attention they greatly deserve.

“The decision to end a marriage is never easy but we have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and only wish the best for Tom always. I kindly ask that our privacy be respected during this sensitive time. Thank you.”

While American football player Tom wrote: “In recent days, my wife and I finalised our divorce from one another after 13 years of marriage. We arrived at this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. We are blessed with beautiful and wonderful children who will continue to be the centre of our world in every way. We will continue to work together as parents to always ensure they receive the love and attention they deserve.

“We arrived at this decision to end our marriage after much consideration. Doing so is, of course, painful and difficult, like it is for many people who go through the same thing every day around the world.

“However we wish only the best for each other as we pursue whatever new chapters in our lives that are yet to be written. And we kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate what is to come in the days and weeks ahead. Thank you.”

The pair had been a mainstay of cute celeb couples for years, so what exactly went wrong? Well, it seems some of Tom’s career choices might have caused some problems.

Gisele has been open about her discomfort with Tom’s career in the past, explaining how she disliked the danger it put her husband in, and how it took a lot of family time away as Tom was so busy.

Telling Elle, she said: “This is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present, I have definitely had those conversations with him over and over again. But ultimately, I feel that everybody has to make a decision that works for [them].”

While in her 2018 memoir, Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life, Gisele revealed she and Tom had a deal before they were married, that Tom’s career would take priority for ten years, after which the focus would be on Gisele’s interests. The pair married in 2009, so celebrated their tenth anniversary in 2019, but Tom continued to play.

But in February of this year, Tom announced his retirement from football. However it was short-lived as 40 days later he announced his return to the game, citing “unfinished business.”

The pair met in 2006, after being set up on a blind date and married just three years later in 2009.

Gisele and Tom welcomed their first child together in 2009, a son Benjamin.

Then in 2012 they welcomed a daughter Vivian. Tom also has a 15-year-old son, John Edward, with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.
