Greta Thunberg Has Just Become The Youngest Ever TIME Person Of The Year

“We can’t just continue living as if there was no tomorrow, because there is a tomorrow"

Unless you’ve been living under a rock this past year, you would have heard the name Greta Thunberg uttered once or twice.

Well, the Swedish teenager has only just gone and been named as TIME magazine’s ‘Person Of The Year’ 2019, and if that doesn’t make you feel under accomplished then I don’t know what will.

But, it’s an absolutely fair title, as Greta has been making headlines across the world this last year since launching her school strike for the climate movement, urging young people alike to take to their streets and demand governments to take action on climate change.

On the Time cover, Greta is pictured with the slogan ‘The Power Of Youth’, giving an interview in the edition, Greta said:

“We can’t just continue living as if there was no tomorrow, because there is a tomorrow. That is all we are saying,”

Speaking about the day that Greta decided to try and change the world, TIME said:

“Just over a year ago, a quiet and mostly friendless teenager woke up, put on her blue hoodie, and sat by herself for hours in an act of singular defiance.”

Continuing they said:

“Fourteen months later, she had become the voice of millions, a symbol of a rising global rebellion. The politics of climate action are as entrenched and complex as the phenomenon itself.”

TIME’S ‘Person Of The year’ has been announced annually since 1927, and includes people like Barack Obama and Mark Zuckerberg, so 16 year old Greta slots in quite nicely, becoming the youngest person to ever be given the title.
