Here’s The Mad Story Of How Matthew Perry Got Julia Roberts To Appear In Friends

This sounds like some Ross behaviour

Still rewatching old Friends episodes? Yep, us too. While some aspects of the show haven’t aged too well, it still comes out on top as many people’s fave show to watch again, and again, and again.

Plus, Friends treated us to some amazing guest stars over the years, just one being legendary actress Julia Roberts. But how she ended up guest-starring in the show is a pretty funny story.

You might remember that episode from way back when in season two, where we saw Julia Roberts starring as Chandler’s old classmate. She agreed to go on a date with him, and left him with no clothes in the restaurant’s toilets. In case you can’t remember the details, it was all to get back at Chandler for how he treated her in school.

So, how did she get to appear on the show? Well, according to the show’s creators, Matthew Perry himself asked Julia to appear on the show, and she responded by asking him to write her a paper on quantum physics in exchange for her accepting the role.

Pretty random request, but he did it in the end!

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, producer Kevin Bright revealed, “Do you know the story of how we got her [Julia]? Matthew asked her to be on the show. She wrote back to him, ‘Write me a paper on quantum physics and I’ll do it.’

“My understanding is that Matthew went away and wrote a paper and faxed it to her the next day.”

Well, you learn something new everyday.
