That’s right, we’re here to talk about Squid Game: the Netflix original series that quite literally took the world by storm last year.
Now, before you get too excited let this be known that we are still pretty far away from the release of season two, HOWEVER, we do have some updates that will hopefully keep you going until the hotly anticipated return.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Hwang Dong-hyu, the creator behind the global phenomenon wanted to make sure that he didn’t just make it as a “response” to the reactions he’s read about the first season.
“I’ve seen many reactions from people about the show, but I don’t want to make season two as a response to those reactions. The philosophies I put in season one all naturally extend to season two. Instead of trying to meet the expectations of viewers, I just thought about the last moment when Gi-hun turned away from boarding the plane, and I thought about what he will do next.”

So stemming from that, we can expect a natural flow of events picking up from where the first season left off, leading all the way to the end of the second season.
And although Hwang can’t give away too many details, he did delve into Seong Gi-hun on how he “has become a totally new person by the end of season one, so season two is going to be about what that new Gi-hun is going to do and how things will unfold with this new kind of character.”

After being nominated for an impressive 14 awards at this year’s Emmy’s, it’s safe to say the pressure is on for the second season with Hwang Dong-hyuk even feeling it himself.
“It would be a total lie if I say that I don’t feel any pressure. Season 1 was just too successful not to feel pressured by it,” he shared. Having said that, the screenwriter has been throwing himself into the script to make the latest season the best it can be.
“When I am actually writing the script, I really immerse myself in that world I created, and it feels less daunting to me.”
So when can we expect to see it on our screens you ask? Well honestly, we’re not all that sure but seeing as Hwang is still in the process of finishing up the script, we could be looking at a 2024 release.
This really doesn’t bode well for our patience but nevertheless, we power through!
