Is bréa linn Ayo!

Ayo Edebiri is one of the hottest up and coming actors right now – in fact, she’s not up and coming anymore; she’s a Golden Globe winner!
The American actress has received critical acclaim for her role of Sydney in FX’s The Bear, and it’s catapulting her into the limelight.
A television writer for years, Ayo is now accepting more and more exciting roles (after smashing it in the comedy Bottoms), and we know she’s going to be a mega A-lister in no time.

And of course, there’s the fact that she’s Irish; or at least, we’re pretending she is!
There’s been a long running gag that Ayo is one of our own, and the actress is absolutely living for it.
But where did the joke come from, and how do we know Ayo’s all for it?
Last year the Boston native did a red carpet interview with movie tracking app Letterboxd.

In true comedic spirit, Ayo explained how she had visited Ireland for a few months – to prepare for her role as ‘Jenny the Donkey’ in the Banshees of Inisherin.
For those of you who haven’t seen the film, Ayo is not in it. She’s simply a messer!
We know that Ayo is besties with Paul Mescal, so perhaps that’s where this joke all stems from?

Anyway, the actress put on her heartiest impression of an Irish person for the bit, and it sent the internet into an absolute tailspin.
Ever since, Ayo has continued to joke that Ireland is her ‘home nation’, and even went as far as to thank her “real family” in Ireland at the Critics Choice awards this week.
Of course, Irish twitter has taken this and run for the absolute hills, with Ayo being edited into classic Irish movies and memes every where we look.
