‘I Just Wanted Respect’: Glen Powell’s Ex Speaks Out About Sydney Sweeney Rumours

Glen Powell’s ex-girlfriend Gigi Paris opened up about the end of their relationship on Emma Klipstein’s podcast ‘Too Much’ on Tuesday.

The pair parted ways in April 2023, following rumours of a romance sparking between Powell and his ‘Anyone But You’ co-star Sydney Sweeney.

“I just wanted respect”, Paris explained on the podcast and added, “especially if it’s going to be public”.

Following Paris’ and Powell’s split, it was later confirmed by The New York Times that the co-star romance rumours were false, with him and Sweeney leaning into them to boost the publicity of the film. With $220 million worldwide, ‘Anyone But You’ was a box office sleeper hit.

“Like, just don’t make a fool out of someone you’ve been with for over three years talking about forever with. Just have some decency, you know?”, Paris said.

Although Paris didn’t mention any names during her conversation on the show, the podcast was promoted by hinting, “Today, Gigi breaks her silence for the first time since the very public unravelling of her four-year relationship with a certain A-list celebrity ex”.

She explained that during their relationship, she was told “work comes first”.

“And if that’s the case, power to you, that’s your priority. I gotta walk away” she said.

She added, “What sucked was how it was handled. I felt like I was just fed to the dogs… It wasn’t [gaslighting], it was just, ‘This is what I have to do for my job'”.

Paris also explained on the podcast how she received a phone call from Powell being told she was not allowed to visit him on the set of ‘Anyone But You’. She said, “He called and said, ‘The producers and I have discussed that I think it’s best that you don’t come to visit’ … And that’s when I hung up”.

“That phone call really is what broke me. I thought we had hope, like, maybe when I got there that, like, things would maybe get better. But once I got that phone call, I just knew it was done. I had lost whoever that person was that I loved”, she explained.

Talking to The Times in 2024, Powell explained that him and Sweeney “have a ton” of “fun together” and “effortless chemistry”. He said, “That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”

Sweeney who was credited as an executive producer on the film agreed and added, “I wanted to make sure that we were actively having a conversation with the audience as we were promoting this film, because at the end of the day, they’re the ones who created the entire narrative.”

Talking to Variety, Powell explained that following on from ‘Anyone But You’, he’s currently looking for “the next thing” for him and Sweeney to work on.

“Please send us all the scripts you got”, he said. “You know we’re here for it. It’s been really wonderful to read a lot. Sydney reads everything, by the way, and in record time. She’s the fastest reader I think I’ve ever met.”

He added, “It takes me a little longer, but we’re reading everything and just trying to see what makes sense, what we can turn into something that audiences are going to respond to.”
