It’s Official: Squid Games Season 2 Is Coming

Squid Games was undoubtedly the breakout show of 2021. It provided iconic TikTok sounds, viral video challenges, and was trending as no.1 on Netflix, becoming the streaming service’s most-watched original show.

It even made history as the first non-English-language series and first Korean series to be nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award. But despite its popularity, there was no word on if we would get another season of the South Korean drama. Or well, until now, that is.

Cause we’re officially getting SQUID GAME SEASON 2!!

The news was so important that Netflix’s co-CEO and chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, actually announced it himself. Saying, “The Squid Game universe has just begun.”

While Ted didn’t share any other updates on season 2, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has previously spoken about his plans for a second series.

He revealed that lead actor Lee Jung-jae would reprise his role as the show’s main character, Seong Gi-hun, if there was a season 2. Saying, “I will promise you this… Gi-hun will come back, and he will do something for the world,”

And Lee Jung-jae shared similar feelings about returning, saying, “I have no idea what will happen or the scale of it, but the only thing (Hwang) did tell me was that Seong Gi-hun is going to be in the show again, and he’s going to be playing in the arena again,”

It seems that’s all the info on season 2 we’re getting for now, and we’re just gonna have to wait for more details.

While season 2 is exciting news, the show’s lead actress, HoYeon Jung, has her own reason to celebrate. As she featured on the cover of American Vogue’s February issue, making her the first-ever solo Korean cover star in the magazine’s history.

The model shared her excitement on Instagram, writing, “I can’t express how grateful and honored i am right now.. Thank you so much @voguemagazine and the wonderful creative team for this opportunity🤭😭🙏🏼♥️”
