Jameela Jamil Called Out Bono’s Daughter Eve For Supporting An Actor Who Assaulted Her Friend

Emile Hirsch reportedly put Jameela's friend in a chokehold at a party in 2015.

Jameela Jamil has hit back at Eve Hewson after she defended actor Emile Hirsch, who reportedly attacked the actress’ friend back in 2015.

It all started on Saturday when Jameela took to Twitter and Instagram to express her thoughts on Emile being cast in the new Quentin Tarantino movie Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.

The actor reportedly ‘strangled’ Jameela’s friend at a party during the Sundance Film Festival in 2015, leaving her suffering with PTSD.

He has been cast alongside Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Leonardo Di Caprio and Dakota Fanning in the director’s hotly anticipated new movie, which will reportedly follow the story of the Manson family murders.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by E! News, Emile reportedly branded the woman a ‘rich kid’ during a night out at a club – she pushed him away and he then put her in a chokehold.

Following the assault, the actor spent 15 days in jail, completed 50 hours of community service, and was ordered to pay a $4,750 fine.

“Emile Hirsch has not apologised for this heinous crime but is [re-joining] Hollywood’s elite,” she continued. “Slow clap to everyone involved in this movie. So many other actors who haven’t attacked women to choose from.”

The post garnered a mixed reaction, with many siding with the actress’s shock of Emile being cast, while other said the attack was a “mistake”. One person who spoke up about the issue was fellow actress and daughter of Bono, Eve Hewson. She commented under Jameela’s post:

He apologised. People make mistakes and if they own up to them, we should always choose forgiveness. Shaming someone for their past,  gender or race aside, doesn’t help anyone. You should apologise for this post.

Jameela gave a heated response back to Eve, asking why is abusing women classed as a mistake:

At the time of Emile’s conviction, the victim Daniele Berbfeld read a statement at the sentencing.

I was subject to a violent and unprovoked attack by a complete stranger. The defendant, Emile Hirsch, put me in a chokehold, pulled me off my feet and threw me to the floor. With the full force of his weight, he choked me until I blacked out.

While Jameela has said that Daniele never received an apology from the actor, Emile admitted to the crime, and said there was “no excuse” and that it was “wrong.”
