Justin Bieber has opened up about his life and marriage in an honest interview with GQ, admitting that his first year of marriage to wife Hailey was ‘tough’.
Although the two appeared to be living a fairytale dream at the time they tied the knot back in 2018 and again in 2019, Justin has lifted the veil on their ‘wedded bliss’ saying that their first year as husband and wife took a lot of work.
“The first year of marriage was really tough because there was a lot, going back to the trauma stuff. There was just a lack of trust,” Justin said.
“There was all these things that you don’t want to admit to the person that you’re with, because it’s scary. You don’t want to scare them off by saying, ‘I’m scared’.”

Justin’s marriage to Hailey came shortly after a rocky time in his life, with him recently opening up about his struggle with fame and handling a life that had no structure. Overcoming such a tumultuous time, Justin says that he felt like he was walking on eggshells, terrified of losing something so special to him.
“It’s beautiful that we have that to look forward to. Before, I didn’t have that to look forward to in my life. My home life was unstable. Like, my home life was not existing. I didn’t have a significant other. I didn’t have someone to love. I didn’t have someone to pour into. But now I have that.”
Justin and Hailey first tied the knot in a secret ceremony in a New York courthouse back in 2018. They then later exchanged vows in a bigger ceremony in South Carolina in 2019 infront of their friends and family.
When it came to marriage and starting a family, Justin said that that is all he ever wanted, knowing that a life alone and on the road was never for him.
“I just felt like that was my calling. Just to get married and have babies and do that whole thing.”
