"I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION"

Kanye West has announced that he will be running for president in 2020. The rapper, who often makes outlandish statements, shared the news to Twitter last night, which was also the fourth of July – a day of huge celebration in the US.

In his announcement Kanye made reference to God, and ‘unifying our vision’ which is something he’s been doing a lot more of in recent years. His Super Soul Sunday services have grown popular, combing religion and music as a way to worship.

This isn’t the first time Kanye has set his sights on the White House, as he said in 2015 at the VMA’s he would run in 2020. These plans came to nothing as in 2018 he came out in support of Donald Trump and said he would not be running.

In late 2019, the rapper again said he would be running, but this time in 2024 saying; “When I run for president in 2024, we would’ve created so many jobs that I’m not going to run, I’m going to walk.”

However, it seems the star has changed his mind again as he made his announcement yesterday evening. Perhaps Trump’s handling of the #blacklivesmatter movement are what have swayed Kanye back to running for President?

His statement ended in the words “#2020VISION” which many are saying could be his potential slogan.

Twitter has erupted this morning with many people not exactly in favour of the idea. Kanye’s billionaire friend and Space X owner, Elon Musk however was quick to show which way he would be voting, posting on Twitter; “You have my full support!”
