Laura Whitmore Opens Up About Caroline Flack’s Death And Working Alongside Her Other Half
"I’m still working through the grief of Caroline Flack’s passing."
In a recent interview with The Times Laura Whitmore has opened up about her life over the past year. It’s been a big one for the Bray native as she took over as host for Love Island after Caroline Flack’s tragic death, spoke openly about her miscarriage for the first time as well as announcing she’s written her first book!
Laura has shared that she’s still trying to process the events of Caroline’s death earlier this year. At just 40, Caroline was found dead in her London home in February.
“I’m still working through the grief of Caroline Flack’s passing. The past six months are a blur. I haven’t fully coped with it. I don’t think I ever will.”

She also spoke about how Caroline was a mentor to her when she started working on the hit show; “Caroline was very good to me. Before I even got offered Love Island, she messaged me saying, “I really hope you get the job.”
“I love doing it, but the circumstances of being offered it were the worst you could possibly imagine.”

Laura also revealed what’s it’s been like working with her other half on the shoe. Laura’s boyfriend, Iain Stirling, also works on Love Island as the much loved and hilarious narrator on the show. Despite working together Laura shared with The Times that it hasn’t impacted them as a couple;
“Working with my boyfriend hasn’t affected our relationship. It’s nice having someone to bounce things off, because they know how the show works.”
“But he’s in South Africa for six weeks, while most of my stuff is done in a studio in London, so we never actually see each other.”

Only recently the Irish presenter revealed that she had written her first book. Not only has she continued to present her BBC 5Live show from her home, as well as her podcast Castaway, while ALSO starring in Celebrity Gogglebox alongside her beau she revealed that she’s spent lockdown writing and finalising her first ever book.
I mean, what can’t this girl do?
Sharing the exciting news on Instagram, as well as the book’s manuscript, Laura wrote: “I’ve written a book! It’s been hard work and a long time to get to here and I can’t bloody believe I finally get to tell you all.”

The book which is titled “No One Can Change Your Life”, was inspired by the Wilson Philips song Hold On; one that many might remember from the finale scene in the equally iconic 2011 movie Bridesmaids.
Getting permission from the band to call the book after their track, Laura’s book is also inspired by the title, explaining that the book is all about being your “own hero” and taking back control of your life and the situations you put yourself in.
In terms of the cover of the book, that’s still to be revealed and so far we’ve only seen a template cover.
The good news however, the book is now available to pre-order and will hit bookshelves from March 4, 2021.
Exciting times, indeed.
