Lili Reinhart has shared that she has been diagnosed with alopecia.

The Riverdale star posted a TikTok two days ago showing herself getting red light therapy for her alopecia.

In the video, the 27-year-old reveals she “was just diagnosed with alopecia in the midst of a major depressive episode”.

In the caption she wrote “Red light therapy is my new best friend” with #alopecia and #mentalhealth.

Red light therapy is known to stimulate hair growth and can be used to treat hair loss.

Alopecia is a general term for hair loss, and it is often caused by an autoimmune response but not always.

In the case of an auto immune response, the immune system attacks healthy cells, like hair follicles, from triggers such as stress, trauma, or illness.

However, alopecia can also be linked to a number of other factors including genetics, certain medications, or nutritional deficiencies.

Lili has often been vocal about putting her mental health first, and sharing her experiences suffering with depression and anxiety.

In 2019 she told Glamour UK “I have spells of time where I feel completely unmotivated, I don’t want to do anything, and I question myself.

“I don’t know how to handle stress very well. I find that talking about it and sharing my experience with other people, and reminding myself that I’m not alone, has been incredibly therapeutic.”

In 2021, Lili posted an Instagram story where she talked about her depression.

“Some days I feel really defeated by my depression, It’s an exhausting battle that I’ve been fighting for 11 years and some days, like today, it can feel intolerable.”

Poor Lili – we’re sending her all our love!
