We all know the drill with Love Island at this stage. You go in, do your bit, leave the villa, partake in a whole lot of interviews and earn your dolla’ bills. The £50,000 prize isn’t the only money up for grabs. From attending events to brand launches, there’s a lot of money in it for popular contestants. But the recent batch of Islanders have missed out on a lot of paychecks thanks to lockdown. Islanders like winners Paige and Finn, runners up Siânnise and Luke would have been expected to rake in literal thousands after leaving the South African villa in February, but nope, it wasn’t meant to be.

“The Winter Love Island stars are set to lose huge amounts of money, some contestants up to £500,000,” PR expert Jack Cooper told Metro.co.uk. “Brand deals at the moment are at an all-time low, many companies are not able to afford the usual Love Island prices for sponsorship deals. They are also missing out on club appearances due to them being closed, which could have earned them up to £5,000 per hour,” not bad, eh?

He went on to add, “With no events to attend, they are also missing out on a huge range of exposure in the media, having no stories for the press to write about.”

While there’s no confirmation on what is actually happening with the next season of the hit reality tv show, there has been a massive increase in applications. “Applications have gone through the roof since lockdown. Never before have so many people applied in this six-week time span.” Check out more on that right here.
