Love Island’s Ollie Is Denying His Involvement In Trophy Hunting
“I was there as an observer”
Another day, another Love Island related drama.
Previous contestant, Ollie Williams, has broken his silence on accusations that he was involved in trophy hunting, claiming that he’s never been involved in such activity.
The 23-year old quit the show earlier this week, just three days into the series. Claiming he’s still in lobe with his ex girlfriend, Ollie confessed in the Beach Hut that he wants to ‘follow his heart’.
However, Ollie has been making headlines for more than just his sharp exit. Shortly after he was announced to enter the show pictures of him trophy hunting and posing with dead animals went viral on social media.
He’s also been listed as the sole director of Cornish Sporting Agency, which gives its nature of business as “hunting” and “trapping”.
After the story surfaced publicly, a petition was started to get him removed from the villa, which gained more than 30,000 signatures, he also received over 500 Ofcom complaints, making him one of the most reported contestants the reality show has ever had.
However, Ollie has now released a statement addressing the accusations, in which he denies his involvement:
“Having left the love Island house I have become aware of the press stories circulating in the UK. I would like to make a number of comments on the various claims and accusations: he told The Mirror.
Continuing he said:
“I did not shoot any animals shown in the photographs nor have I ever shot as a trophy hunter. I did volunteer to take part in the conservation and anti-poaching programme in Mozambique, a part off which involved old or sick animals being culled. I was there as an observer.”
The statement comes as news that Ollie’s family home in Cornwall is reportedly being targeted by animal activists, causing them to employ 24-hour home security.
In his statement Ollie added:
“I feel very passionately about conservation and will continue to support sustainable conservation causes around the globe.”
Concluding he said:
“As I am no longer in Love Island, I will comment no further on this issue.”
