Hard to believe that during their time in the villa Love Island stars Maura Higgins and Molly-Mae Hague started off not getting along. It’s safe to say the girls are since over their drama and officially besties. Their friendship is so strong Maura actually defended Molly-Mae amid her recent scandal.

While on The Diary Of A CEO, Molly-Mae made a comment about her work ethic and how if anyone works hard they can achieve what they want. But she disregarded the privileges that give some including herself an advantage. If you want to know the full situation, we’ve broken it down here.

After Molly-Mae’s comments caused an uproar, fellow former Love Islander Shaughna Phillips addressed the situation in a Tweet. Saying, “Molly Mae is young, who’s had a lot of success really quickly, and not a lot of ‘life’. So I can understand why she holds those views. We all say things when we’re younger and look back and think ‘well that was stupid’ lol. No shade I wanna live in her bubble.”

While it seems like Shaughna was trying to defend Molly-Mae, Maura didn’t see that way and was not having it, so replied to Shaughna.

Maura replied to Shaughna’s tweet saying, “Surely you know as someone in this industry how lonely and scary it can be when the whole internet is slamming you. Your entitled to your opinion yes but I’m really surprised you commenting on this at all.”

And in true Love Island fashion it didn’t end there. Shaughna replied to Maura defending herself saying, “100%! That’s why I tweeted this in her defence. She’s young and successful, it’s not her fault she has those views. Like I said, no shade, just jel lol.”

Shaughna did send out another tweet not specifically addressing the situation but saying, “No I need to learn to just shut up I annoy myself lol”

After Shaughna replied to someone who tweeted, in reference to Molly-Mae saying, “I understand where she’s coming from 100%, think she could have just worded it all very different so she didn’t sound like a d*ck she did have a huge advantage yes but she’s put herself out there in the public eye for it.”

To which Shaughna said: “This is what I mean, when I was her age and said silly things, I had about 17 followers, so the backlash was non existent.

“The point I think is important is that there was no malice behind her statements”

That seems to be the end of the Maura-Shaughna drama, as neither has responded since. However it’s not the end of the situation as Molly-Mae has addressed the controversy herself through a representative.

Molly-Mae’s statement read:

“This part of the interview was discussing time efficiency relating to success. Molly refers to a quote which says ‘We all have the same 24 hours in a day as Beyonce.’ She was discussing her own experience and how she can resonate with this specific quote.

“Her opinion on if you want something enough you can work hard to achieve it is how she keeps determined with her own work to achieve more in her own life.

“Molly is not commenting on anyone else’s life or personal situation, she can only speak of her own experience. She acknowledges that everyone is raised in different ways and from different backgrounds but her comments here are in reference to timing, hard work and determination in her own life.

“If you listen to this interview you can see the whole conversation was about her own personal circumstances, how she has grown up and this small clip in the conversation was talking about a quote that inspires her.

“Social media users have shared a short snippet from this interview with words such as ‘if you are homeless buy a house’ and ‘if you are poor be poor’. These are absolutely not Molly’s words, these are not Molly’s thoughts and this isn’t at all the meaning or thought behind that conversation.”
