Netflix Hit, The Crown, Will End After Season Five

"It has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop.”

Fans of hit Netflix show, The Crown will be disappointed to hear the series will end after the fifth season.

We had fully expected to see six seasons as we had two with the original cast, Claire Foy and Matt Smith (our personal favs tbh).

Then for two more seasons the cast changed, to be in line with the age of the characters they play and were replaced by Olivia Coleman and Tobias Menzies. They have both been confirmed for season four also.

As some cast members for the next ‘age’ of the royal family had been announced we expected to see them carry on in the same vein, for two seasons. Imelda Staunton has been revealed as playing the Queen in season five.

Instead, it was announced this week that after season five there will be no more. Season four will cover from 1977-1990 so as you can see it is getting closer and closer to the present day, which of course can cause some problems.

Peter Morgan, the show’s creator has said the show will only run up to events in 2003, and end there.

He has said; “But now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop.”

This of course rules out any speculation that the show will cover current events like Meghan and Harry and Prince Andrew’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

Although we are disappointed to see the show end, especially when the modern day material for later seasons is so juicy it is a sensible decision. Meghan and Harry are already trying to remove themselves from the spotlight, so to cover this in a TV series would be unfair.

We can still expect the series to cover the affair between Prince Charles and Camilla, as well as the life of Princess Diana so there is plenty of drama yet to come for the show.
