New And Old Thrillers To Binge If You Loved Black Doves
Let's gooo
If you are a bit like us and watched the whole six episodes of Netflix’s Black Doves in one sitting, then you are probably on the lookout for another gripping thriller to fill that gap in your life.
Luckily for you, we have banded together some of our all-time favourites so you don’t have to spend your precious time searching for them.
Who is Erin Carter
Who is Erin Carter was released on Netflix in 2023. The show follows Erin (Evin Ahmad) a British mother of one who is working in an international school in Barcelona. Erin appears to be living a seemingly picture-perfect life with her daughter and husband in Spain until an armed robbery in a supermarket forces her to break out her very skilful defensive moves to protect her daughter.
This event ultimately leads Erin to come face to face with her past and reveal the shady secrets of her life before her move to Barcelona. Each episode of this seven-part limited series gets better and better as more secrets and drama are revealed, so it is well worth a watch.
Cruel Summer
Cruel Summer follows the story of a popular teenage girl named Kate Wallis who mysteriously goes missing one day.
The plot begins to thicken when the once unpopular Jeanette Turner, who always envied the missing popular girl, seemingly takes her place. The two-season series is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
Fool Me Once
Another series that will have you on the edge of your seat throughout is Fool Me Once. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Harlan Coben and follows army veteran Maya Stern (Michelle Keegan) as she tries to rebuild her life with her young daughter after the shooting dead of her husband, Joe.
However, not everything is as it seems in this riveting series as Maya discovers an impossible truth through her nanny cam. The question of the film is: who exactly killed Joe and why? The show has plenty of plot twists that will have you suspecting all the character’s murders. You will definitely be fooled more than once by the thickening plot as the series goes on.
Slow Horses
Apple TV’s Slow Horses is one of the platform’s biggest success stories when it comes to the thriller spy genre. The series follows a group of MI5 agents nicknamed the ‘slow horses’ who work in a department of the organisation, especially for agents who have somewhat screwed up their career in the spying industry.
The humorous drama stars Gary Oldman who serves as Jackson Lamb, the leader of these agents. The series is based on the Slough House novels written by Mick Herron.
Anatomy of a Scandal
This political thriller is based on the novel written by Sarah Vaughan. In the mini-series we see Sienna Miller take on the role of politician James Whitehouse’s wife who is accused of sexually assaulting one of his younger colleagues.
As the show goes on and the case goes to court, not everything is as it seems as dark secrets dating back to the character’s college days come bubbling to the surface. A bit more of a heavier watch than the others on this list but if you are a fan of well-crafted political thrillers then this one is certainly worth a watch.
Pretty Little Liars
If you have somehow managed to avoid this cult classic TV show over the years, then you have seriously been missing out. You have undoubtedly heard of the notorious ‘A’ who is constantly terrorising and manipulating a certain group of teenage girls amidst the mysterious disappearance of Alison Di Laurentis.
The thriller series spans over seven seasons and first aired in 2010. However, one thing that viewers should bear in mind is the somewhat questionable ending to season seven. The series can be streamed on Paramount+.
YOU
Hit American psychological thriller series, YOU, follows Gossip Girl Alum Penn Badgley, who plays the obsessive bookshop manager Joe Goldberg. Upon first appearances it seems that the charming Joe is a pretty normal guy, however, that soon changes as it becomes increasingly obvious that he has a dangerous habit of falling in love and obsessing over women.
The series follows the extraordinary and sometimes creepy lengths he will go to when he becomes infatuated with a woman. There are currently four seasons of YOU on Netflix with season five expected to be released very soon.
