Niall Horan is opening about his romance with girlfriend Amelia Woolley, sharing how their time together inspired his new music.

The pair reportedly met in London and have been seeing each other for nearly three years.

Speaking to NME about his new album, The Show, the Mullingar man showed how the song, You Could Start A Cult, came to be. Admitting it was inspired by his girlfriend, but don’t panic, he isn’t implying Amelia will be starting a cult anytime soon. Instead it was inspired by one of their favourite past times, watching true crime shows.

Explaining: “I watch a lot of true crime with my girlfriend, It’s a lot of that kind of thing, and I just wrote it down one night when we were watching something, because it’s a big thought.”

“I thought it was funny initially: you could literally start a cult, and I’d follow you into the fire. It started as a joke and became this really sweet song, it is funny.”

But there was a bit of miscommunication on the couch, as when Niall was answering if the date went well he said: “Kinda, it was kinda, it happened and then…” Before fellow guest Prue Leith jumped in, explaining: “Now, listen she won’t really like this when she sees you’ve said ‘kinda girlfriend'”

When Niall correcting: “No, no, no, she’s definitely my girlfriend. She’s behind there,” gesturing to backstage.
