Irish actor Paul Mescal has said that fame is not for him and that he just wants a normal life.

But is a normal life out of the question for the star?

According to the Irish Examiner, the actor said that despite his acting career he still wants to feel like he can “go out,” “get drunk” and “meet someone in a bar.”

However, with his new movie Gladiator 2 set to come out in November, it might be tricky for Paul to stay out of the spotlight.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Paul said that he hopes his life won’t be too different and that he’s concerned what difference an extra amount of fame could make.

In the interview Paul explained that he never wants to reach a level of fame where he is constantly stopped in the street, adding “Is it just that more people will stop you in the street? I’d get profoundly depressed if that’s so and hope it isn’t true.”

“I don’t want to close myself off to going out and meeting someone in a bar or getting drunk at a party. That would turn me into a boring human.”

Starring alongside Paul in Gladiator 2 is fellow Irish actor Barry Keoghan, who is definitely in the spotlight at the moment.

Other cast members include Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Denzel Washington, Djimon Hounsou, and Connie Nielsen.

Paul rose to fame swiftly after being cast as Connell Waldron in Sally Rooney’s Normal People in 2020, keeping us all entertained during the covid 19 pandemic.

The miniseries is based on Sally Rooney’s 2018 novel, Normal People and follows the story of teenagers Connell Waldron played by Paul and Marianne Sheridan played by Daisy Edgar-Jones as they navigate adulthood, relationships, mental health, and college life.

Will Paul be able to stay out of the spotlight or will fame get in the way?

Whatever the case, we just want Paul to be happy….even if it means seeing him less. Sigh.
